Abstract
This study examines the characteristics and originality of family businesses in Korea and how their participation in companies affects the performance of businesses. In other words, the analysis focused on family involvement, family norms, and relationship between family capital and management performance. First, does family involvement affect family norms? Second, do family regulations affect family capital? Third, does family capital affect management performance? Fourth, will family norms translate into family involvement and family capital? Fifth, do family rules influence management performance based on family capital? Sixth, find out if family norms and capital should be double mediated between family involvement and management performance. A regression analysis was performed to verify the above. The analysis showed that family involvement has a partial positive effect on family norms (Has 1), and family norms have a positive effect on family capital (Has 2), and that family business management performance has a positive effect on family capital. Next, through the method of analysis of the effects, the family code positively influences family capital by mediating family involvement (Has 4), and family capital has a positive effect by interpreting it between family norms and business performance. They also found that there was an impact between family regulations and management performance by double-dealing with family capital. In conclusion, it was found that the participation of family members in the performance of a firm has a very positive effect. This research is the nation's first paper to explicitly analyze family participation in companies, namely family involvement, family norms, concepts of family capital, the factors that shape family capital, and factors that affect family business performance. There is also significance in that it provides important implications for corporate management for small and medium-sized businesses.
