Abstract

Russian Bards stands as a popular culture symbolizing "thaw" after Stalin. Russian Bards deviates from the form and principles of the popular culture in Soviet society(the 30s-40s), which can be described as official culture, and sings on various theme from the late 1950s to the mid-70s. The important feature of Bards is that it has the dualistic characteristics of song and poem. The one is the strong text orientation to expresses the everyday life’s emotion in the USSR, so it easily brings sympathy to the public. Another feature is that the song is made into ‘Homemade Recording' (Samizdat, self-publishing) called Magnitizdat(tape recorder publishing), because the content of the song opposites the principle of socialist realism. The pioneer of bards poet is Bulat Okudzhava, Vladimir Vysotsky proves to be indisputablely great figures in his own right. In this study, Bard's works have continuity with poetry, and they approach the literary characteristics. Bard's thematic classification can be broadly classified into two types, one is a lyric-romantic type represented by Okudzhava, and the other is a narrative type represented by Vysotsky. Based on this foundation, I will develop the theme of study of Okudzhava’s poetics as hopes and Vysotsky’s work as resistances. Accordingly, it analyzes mainly the early works in which the lyricism of Okudzhava appears strongly. Through the three themes of Moscow streets, war and love, the suffering of the poetic ‘I’ in his life and the emotion of melancholy are is expressed at its peak. However, the paradoxical hope behind the grief heightens the lyrical atmosphere. Vysotsky is the most popular Bard poet in husky tones, performances and songs. By singing a universal theme, Vysotsky changes ‘We’ relationship with ‘I’ and ‘you’ in personal relationship. By using a variety of languages, such as crime, prison, and profanity, political freedom is turned into a voice of resistance. His ideological escape is a mental shift for existence.
