A Study on the Hanyang : Focusing on Jang Il-Woo and Kim Soon-Nam's Nationalism

Literary column of the Hanyang was guaranteed space for strong nationalism of residing in Japan Diaspora intellectuals. Jang Il-Woo and Kim Soon-Nam, critics, took the initiative of that. Characteristic of criticism of Jang Il-Woo and Kim Soon-Nam was emphasis to "life reality" and "nation". Especially, it’s important that Jang Il-Woo and Kim Soon-Nam were nationalists. Jang Il-Woo focused on the national pathos, while Kim Soon-Nam concentrated on the tradition. This was shown that image of typical Diaspora nationalism. Jang Il-Woo and Kim Soon-Nam exposed their difference through participating in argument for "the Korean-ness" in 1963. Jang Il-Woo maintained that nationalism contained universal value of anti-imperialism and national unification, but Kim Soon-Nam sided with nationalism of revolutionary government. After this, criticism of Kim Soon-Nam degenerated into violent ethical-criticism which based on nationalistic worth. On the other side, Jang Il-Woo participated in controversy over the purity and participation literature in 1964. Jang Il-Woo asserted literature which realize the politics through the national Pathos base on the monism, politics = literature.
