중국 고대의 국가 신앙은 한대(漢代)에 특수한 정치적 배경 속에서 생성되었고, 정치적인 필요성에 의해 생성된 산물이다. 한대(漢代) 유학(儒學)의 핵심은 정치 신학인데, 그 의의는 첫째, 정치로 하여금 합법성을 얻게 한 것이고, 둘째, 정치 작용을 규범화시킨 것이다. 따라서 한대(漢代) 유학은 일종의 이론 형태일 뿐 아니라 일종의 정치 조작 수단--예를 들면 국가적인 차원의 제사제도--으로 표현되었다.
Abstract
Serious debate on the nature of Confucianism has been going on since the early 1980s. Few scholars consider Confucianism in ancient China a religion but others a philosophy. Three aspects of Confucianism in Han Dynasty are discussed in this paper. First, the background under which Confucianism was generated. Second, the political theology of Han Confucianism. Third, the state cult and political rituals. The conclusion of this article shows that Confucianism in Han Dynasty is a religion, not in general such as Daoism and Buddhism but rather in special, in other words, a public faith or a political religion in ancient time.
