이현화의 「키리에」에 나타난 ‘친일’과 기억의 문제

Abstract

「Kyrie」 written by Lee Hyun-hwa decisively brings up questions about the approach to history which was dichotomized into ‘Pro-Japanese’ versus ‘Anti-Japanese’ and its authority. Also, having restored the personal memories that contravened the formal history, her works show that the history can be newly reconstituted, not as by the fixed reality. But, this much cannot completely affirm the entire work. It is because that the memory of an individual, called ‘Kaneyama’ in the drama, is taken into as meaningful ‘Perjurious Behavior’ and realigned under the name of the nation again, although the individual’s memory boldly betrays the dominant dichotomy of historical understanding. And, the writer justifies such process as the ‘Great Behavior.’Furthermore, 「Kyrie」 is based on the history, however, it directly reminds the contemporary form of social behavior. This work was written on the ground of the career of a real person who was in the frame of ‘Pro-Japanese Group’, and was presented to the public during the time when the issues related to ‘Past Settlement’ had social repercussion. Therefore, 「Kyrie」 can be regarded as the work that raises meaningful questions about ‘Pro-Japanese’ while having a danger of beautifying the past affairs, or of hiding the truth from people.
