이상의 소설들은 대개 개인의 내면을 탐구한다. 『12월 12일』은 그러한 내면 탐구의 형식을 지닌다. 이 작품은 작가 이상의 첫 소설로 1930년에 발표된다. 이 작품은 이상 소설의 기원을 이룬다. 이상 소설의 관례와 사상이 이 작품에는 잘 담겨있다. 이 작품이 이상 문학의 출발점에서 논의되어야 할 점은 그렇게 구축된 내적형식이다. 내적 형식은 서사의 주인공이 자신의 고유한 본질을 발견하려는 이야기를 통해 구축된다. 『12월 12일』은 반복과 아이러니 구조를 통하여 내적 형식을성취한다. 서사 구조에서 ‘12월 12일’은 세 번 반복된다. 그것은 소설의 제목으로주어지면서 상징적 의미를 얻게 된다. 주인공의 불행한 운명은 그것과 연관되어있다. 그 최종점은 주인공의 자살이다. 서사적 아이러니는 ‘12월 12일’이 지닌 비극적 의미를 담아낸다. 행운의 사건이 사실은 비극을 몰아오게 됨을 일깨우는 데서 서사적 아이러니는 발생한다. 이 작품의 화자는 끊임없이 사건을 논평한다. 집요한 생각들은 이상 소설의 핵심을 이룬다. 이 생각들을 전하는 방식이 화자의 담화이다. 『12월 12일』은 화자의논평을 통하여 그 생각을 전달한다. 그런 점에서 화자는 리얼리즘의 일반 원칙인화자의 순수성을 위반하고 있다고 할 것이다. 그러나 이는 작중인물의 내부 관찰을 수행하는 효과적인 방안으로 이상 소설의 수사학을 특징짓는다. 이러한 과정에서, 작중인물과 서술자는 의식과 감정을 공유한다. 이상 소설의 수사학은 『12월12일』에서 이미 비롯된다. 그렇게 이 작품은 이상 문학을 탐구하는 출발점에 놓인다.
Abstract
Novels of Lee Sang generally search for the internality of the individuals. 12thDecember has the form of the search for the internality. This novel, the very firstnovel of Lee Sang, was published in 1930. It forms the beginning of novels of LeeSang. It contains the practice and idea of Lee Sang. As the beginning of novelsof Lee Sang, it should be studied with its internal form. Internal forms are established with the narrative of the protagonist searching forhis essence. 12th December accomplishes the internal form by repetition and irony. ‘12th December’ appears three times in the narrative. It has a symbolic meaning,becoming the title of the novel. The tragic destiny of the protagonist is related toit. The peak of the tragedy is suicide of the protagonist. Narrative irony reflectsthe tragic meaning of ‘12th December’. Narrative irony occurs when awakening thatlucky event actually leads to the tragedy. The narrator of 12th December continuously comments the events. Pertinaciousthoughts form the core of novels of Lee Sang. The narrator's discourse is the meansof delivering these thoughts. 12th December delivers these thoughts through thenarrator's comments as well. It is also a means of searching for the internality ofthe character. The narrator and the character share senses and emotions throughthis process. The rhetoric of Lee Sang already originated in 12th December. Thatis why 12th December is the starting point of studying Lee Sang.
