문화로 읽는 근대 이행기 시가문학 – 『대한매일신보』를 대상으로 –

Abstract

This paper is planned and written with the intention of examining the identity of Korean poetry in the transitional period toward modern ages from the poetic works appearing in The Korea Daily News. The subject of this discussion of ours is 'culture'. It tries to consider the picture of the manners and customs of the times having as the object the poetic works depicting the transitional period toward modern ages. The Korea Daily News was first published in 18 July 1904, and had been published until 28 August 1910, just before Gyeongsul Gukchi. This paper also deals with minyos, changgas, sijos, and other poetic works, centering on 'Enlightenment Gasas' appearing in the column of 'The critical comments on the current issues,' the poetic works appearing in the Korean edition of The Korea Daily News, which are the object of our study. 'The Cultural Consciousness Appearing in The Korea Daily News' focused on the problem of the identity of Korean poetic works in modern ages. It paid attention to ordinary culture and subculture as the categories of culture. It deduced the cultural consciousness of the times from the movement track in the manners and customs of the times, nationalism, and illumine. It also witnesses the thinking that social changes are brought out from the public. Centering on the considerations delineated above this paper devotes itself to clarify the identity of the history of Korean literature in modern ages by the discourses on the cultural manners and customs in the transitional period toward modern ages.
