대학 글쓰기와 자기소개서의 실질적 교육 방안 -서사적 구성 방식을 중심으로-

Abstract

A self-introduction letter is one of the necessary writings that the university students in Korea practically need the most. However, the current curriculum of university and writing education in the revised textbook is far from practical and effective writing that they hope. Worse, ‘explanation’ and ‘argument’ are further emphasized in the curriculum to reinforce practical writing. In this respect, I intend to examine the writing method of a narrative that can maximize its usefulness for the writing of a self-introduction letter that requires being practical and effective. A narrative is one of the most familiar ways to state that people use. And a narrative is the most important way in which mankind structures and organizes human's understanding of time. In the section of ‘growth background’ of a self-introduction letter, chronological plots along the selection and progression of events interest and impress the readers. In the narrative of a hero, the story progresses in a way that the main character recognizes and solves a problematic situation and sublimates it into one of his/her merits. Like the heroic narrative, the strategic arrangement of describing strengths and weaknesses is very important in a self-introduction. The self-introduction letter written in this format can give the positive impression that the applicant (writer) overcame his weak points and sublimated them into his strong points. A self-introduction letter is not only a literary work of producing oneself subjectively but also make the readers objectively understand what he is. This means that a writer of a self-introduction should consider how someone who reads and evaluates the writing will understand and interpret it. That is, a self-introduction should be written in consideration of a reader's intent and interpretation points it because it is related to the additional and detailed questions in a real interview.
