“Zheng Yin Ju Hua”(《正音咀华》) is a book for the Cantonese to learn Mandarin in the late Qing Dynasty. There actually exist two sets of rhymes in the book. One is displayed ostensibly by the author, which is his ideal rhyme system. The other is revealed by the Cantonese or Mandarin phonetic notation beside the words, which was the actual pronunciation of the Mandarin.
Abstract
