Abstract

Busan, a maritime city as a “region,” is a periphery far from the center (capital), but is at the forefront of contact with the outside world, and is an area where national and transnationals coexist, where changes surrounding the country are directly affected. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explore the process of intellectual, human, and material movement centered on the Japanese colonial era colonial maritime city of Busan and Western Japan, and the process of contact/conflict/negotiation between immigrants and foreign cultures, especially cafe culture (modernism) around 1930. As a result, it was found that cafes began to flow into Busan after 1926, which coincided with the time when Busan’s entertainment culture began to shrink relatively by reducing the number of Busan’s Yechanggi under the authority of the Busan police chief. In addition, through such contact with human, material, and intellectual culture and crossing, new cultures related to modernism, such as modern dance, have begun to be actively introduced in existing rapids. In addition, unlike Yugwak’s wedding period, the extra pay (waiterless), which was free to go out with customers, was also subject to state management control (sexual disease tests, etc.), but cafes that entered Busan’s entertainment culture as latecomers were controlled by different sales strategies such as Kid Day and Node Day.
