성장서사에서 인물의 대응 방식과 독자 반응-『올해의 미숙』을 중심으로-

Abstract

This study analyzes the cartoon 『Misook of this Year』 and readers' reactions to it from the perspective of growth. The core of the analysis is to examine how the character, the subject of growth, responds to the hardships and crises inevitably experienced in the process of growth, and the reader's response is also centered on the character. The theoretical background is based on the discussion of the rite of passage and the structure of Campbell's heroic narrative, taking the perspective of viewing the difficulties experienced in the process of growth and their responses as 'initiation' and 'return', respectively. In Chapter 2, trials and coping methods were analyzed by dividing them into categories of family, friends, and literature. Mi-sook experiences both solidarity and collapse in her relationship with her parents and older sister and takes a cold attitude toward it. She shows the courage to accept Jae-yi, who approached her first, rather than rejecting her. And when Jae-yi betrays her, she reveals her determination to cut off the relationship once and for all. In addition, despite the pain caused by literature, which is inseparable from life, it embodies the utility of self-understanding and reflection provided by literature while keeping a proper distance. In Chapter 3, readers' reactions were analyzed. The character's response was interpreted as the maturity behind the apathy and understanding of others, showing compassion and regret. In addition, the characters responded by evoking themselves or those around them, expanding into the realm of the reader's personal life, and confirming the universality of the theme of growth. This study has the significance of grasping the universality and specificity of growth implied by the work by analyzing the narrative of growth through the responses of readers living in the same era.
