Abstract

This Study aims to investigate the need of play studies based on the Humanities and analyze a various meanings of play in the Korea. The recent research underlines that the country's economic volume now ranks 14th in the world, while with quality it lags behind at 19th and quality of life at 26th. It disturbs long-lasting development of the Korean society, by attach greater importance to economic size than to quality of life. But we must constitute a new guidepost that examine comprehensively situations of the Korean society. This paper suggest the play studies, paidialogy, as an alternative that can help to overcome symptoms of the risk society. The humanistic play studies tend to see play as the basis of balanced social progress. The reflexivity of play includes epistemological and practical meanings, which try to reflex social structure and principles of social repressions. The ludic reflexivity provides creative ideas for conquest of the existing instrumental play studies such as play therapy and play education, because its goal is recovery of social solidarity. The play has a variety of emancipative properties that can encourage alternative life. Thus one may use them as the materials of the social projection. ‘The ludic politics’ take notice of ‘liminal space’ of the play as liminal area. It provokes deconstruction of the instrumental reason and everyday stresses, by creating active and reflexive subjects as ‘Homo Ludens’ who can dream other life than the existing one. One may call the practical properties and social meanings of the play as ‘ludic justice’ or ‘paidial justice’ because the play can play the important role for changing and reshaping the social textures.
