Abstract

This study investigates the impact of self-efficacy on the continuous usage intention of mobile banking services among Japanese university students studying in South Korea. Specifically, it explores the indirect role of self-efficacy in influencing the continuous usage intention through perceived usefulness and user satisfaction. To analyze the data, PLS-SEM was employed, and the results are as follows: First, self-efficacy was found to have a positive effect on the likelihood of continuous usage, indicating that users with higher self-efficacy are more likely to continue using mobile banking services. Second, users with higher self-efficacy tend to evaluate the usefulness of mobile banking services more positively, highlighting the significant influence of self-efficacy on technology acceptance. Third, an increase in perceived usefulness leads to greater user satisfaction, which in turn positively influences future usage intention. Fourth, self-efficacy positively influences user satisfaction, and finally, satisfaction was found to significantly impact continuous usage intention. This study expands the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by analyzing the psychological factors influencing the behavior of mobile banking users and provides empirical evidence of the roles of self-efficacy and satisfaction in predicting continuous usage intention. These findings offer valuable insights for mobile banking service providers to develope strategies to enhance users’ self-efficacy, ultimately encouraging continued service usage.
