전후 작가인 손창섭의 주요 단편들을 중심으로 손창섭 소설의 정동 미학을 살펴보고자 한다. 손창섭 소설의 정동을 매개하는 것은 성이다. 성은 몸의 한 부분이자 관계를 추동하는 핵심적 사건이다. 성은 접촉과 변양이라는 치열한 정동 흐름의 추적을 가능하게 하는 제재이자 주제로 작동한다. 성과 정동의 고찰을 통하여 전후 작중인물이 놓인 실존적 상황을 이해하고 손창섭 소설의 심오한 정동 미학에 도달할 수 있을 것이다. ｢신의 희작｣은 손창섭의 자전적 소설이다. 소년에서 어엿한 가장으로 성장하는 과정에서 S가 겪었던 고통과 혼돈의 시간을 추적하고 있다. 소년 화자는 우연히 어머니의 동침 현장을 목격하게 되고 연이어 고간에 어머니의 손길을 받는 충격적 경험을 한다. 사건 이후 어머니로부터 철저히 외면받으면서 수치와 모멸, 공포감에 휩싸인다. 근친상간적 상상과 파괴적이고 공격적인 정념을 갖게 된다. 아내 지즈코 와의 연애와 결혼 과정을 거치면서 관계적이라는 정동의 힘을 갖게 된다. ｢생활적｣과 ｢인간동물원초｣는 전쟁과 분단의 현실 속에서 심신의 거처와 경쟁력을 잃고 변해가는 인간군상의 정동을 포착한다. 두 소설의 주요무대는 ‘수용소’와 ‘감옥’으로, 폭력과 인권유린이 자행되는 예외적 공간이다. ‘불륜’이 발생하는 암담한 공간에서 인물들은 출구없는 일상을 감내한다. 견디고 살아남은 자는 심각한 우울을 겪는다. 손창섭은 망각과 체념의 현실에서 ‘우울’이라는 공적 정서를 통하여 비정하고 부조리한 현실의 각성과 타파를 강렬하게 요구한다. 또한 감옥에 갇혀 마비되어가는 자들의 경직성과 방심을 일깨우기 위해 ‘조롱’을 통해 집단적 반향을 유도한다. ｢미해결의 장｣ ｢잉여인간｣에서 대비적인 지식인 화자를 등판시켜 실존과 공존의 의미를 환기한다. ｢미해결의 장｣에서 꿈의 실현이 불가능한 현실에서 작중인물들은 ‘증오’라는 감정에 들려있다. 아버지는 ‘나’를 증오하고 ‘나’는 아버지를 경멸한다. 성노동자를 선택한 ‘광순’은 증오의 타자성을 극복하고 가장 역할을 수행하나 그녀에게 의지하는 타자들은 증오의 굴레에 빠져있다. 점점 쓰레기가 되어가는 ‘나’와 증오의 타자성을 극복하고 주체적으로 살아가는 광순을 대비하며 허위와 모순에 젖은 군상들을 비판하고 인식의 전환을 촉구한다. ｢잉여인간｣은 유혹의 함정을 넘은 카리스마적 인물, 진정한 지식인을 통하여 사랑의 의미와 지켜야 할 것과 버려야 할 것을 알게한다. 사적 이익의 배제와 공적 나눔의 정서에 의해 지속 가능한 인간관계와 공동체 생활을 가능하게 하는 정서적 정치, 강력한 정동의 의미를 실감하게 한다.
Abstract
Sohn Chang-seop is one of the most representative post-war novelists. This study aimed to examine aesthetics of affect within his novel as a whole by reviewing notable short stories that the novelist wrote. The writer takes sex as a mediator of affect in his work, in which sex is in itself a critical event that drives relationships as well as a part of body. In Sohn Chang-seop's novel, sex is an element or subject that makes it possible to trace the intense flow of affect that is characteristic of contact and transformation(variation). That subject paves the way to understand post-war realities of characters appeared in the above mentioned short stories, ultimately contributing to reaching aesthetics of affect deeply placed in the writer's novel. Incestuous Imagination and Passion : “God's Ridiculous Creation” is sort of an autobiography by Sohn Chang-seop. In the work, a boy passes through a shocking experience of sexual contact with his mother and meet-ups for marriage as he grows up from boyhood to being the head of household. Going beyond incestuous imagination and passion, the protagonist becomes aware of what sexual unity and relationships should be truly like. Concentration Camp, 'Immorality' and Depression : Sohn Chang-seop's short-length novels, “Like Living” and “Brief of Human Animals” are stories each of whose setting is a concentration camp. Characters in those stories get heavily damaged from inhumane experiences at a POW camp or jail. Among them, those who survive such an extremely immoral place where human rights annihilation and sodomy are committed end up in severe depression. Transcending otherness of hate and temptation : The novelist's short stories like “Unresolved Area” and “Surplus Humans” invoke what is the meaning of sex and awareness or existence and co-existence. Characters in those stories, especially Gwang-sun as a sex worker who overcomes otherness of hate, criticize people for being obsessed with falsehood and contradiction, and urge them to awaken themselves in a different direction. Eventually, a charismatic character or true intellect who even gets away of the trap of temptation becomes a predictor of sustainable human relations and community life.
