Abstract

This study aims to explore the educational meaning of paintings. Paintings are useful to live like a human being. Painting is life story for our lives. Through the paintings, we can look back on ourselves, find out who we are now, and look far into the life that is to come. Painting shows the past, present and the future given to us. Paintings support and lead our lives. Paintings give us a chance to reflect on how we lived in the past and how we should live. Painting is not just a array of several lines and colors. Values and beliefs of our people are also contained in it. Painting is a world of ideas, made with lines and colors. This is why we can find the educational implications in the paintings. It is because various thoughts about our lives are ingrained in it. The educational stories in the painting tell us about our demand for humanity. Education is a social device for human life. Painting expresses humanness and presents educational value for that. In this respect, this study concentrates on educational story in the painting. This study covers sosangphalkyengdo(소상팔경도)/agyangludo(악양루도)/masangcheongaengdo(마상청앵도)/daejanggan(대장간)/mogyeondo(모견도)/dongjagyeonlyedo(동자견려도)/jeomsim(점심)/moggikkakgi(목기깎기)/mogyeyeongjado(모계영자도)/ ssileum(씨름)/gonunoli(고누놀이)/gosagwansudo(고사관수도)/gangsanjoeodo(강산조어도)/osuchojogdo(오수초족도)/ gosatagjogdo(고사탁족도) and so on. Educations in these classical arts can be roughly divided into three major types. The first of them is desire for nature. Nature was a place of education for our ancestors. The second is desire for relationship. Relationship is the basic condition of education. The third is desire for composure. Composure is a motive power to mature ourselves. Nature, relationship and composure are the elements based on the education. The educational stories that the paintings tell and show are meaningful, because they are a reminder of the path of education.
