王家衛 감독의 <墮落天使>는 현란한 기교와 뒤섞인 시공간, 갑작스런 총격전과 격투 장면 등 이해를 방해하는 요소들이 많다. 그러나 자신의 영화는 홍콩과 관련되지 않은 것이 없다는 그의 말대로 이 영화 역시 1997년 홍콩의 반환과 관련지어 해석할 수밖에 없다. 본고는 <墮落天使>를 강요된 망각과 이에 대한 반응으로 해석한다. 잊으라 하나 결코 잊을 수 없다는 한 쌍과 중ㆍ영 양국의 정부에서 규정한 역사의 유효기한이 아니라 ‘감정’의 유통기한을 주장하는 나머지 한 쌍의 이야기인 것이다. 첫 번째 이야기는 삽입곡 <望記他>를 중심으로 망각을 강요하는 일방과 그 망각을 결연히 거부하는 일방의 이야기이다. 이 삽입곡의 제목과 가사 내용 사이의 괴리를 중심으로 논지를 전개하였다. 두 번째 이야기는 버림받은 여주인공과 그 여주인공을 짝사랑하다 역시 버림받은 남주인공의 이야기이다. 남주인공이 여자친구와 부친과 잇달아 이별을 하면서 느끼는 ‘감정’의 유통기한’을 중심으로 작품이 또 하나의 기억투쟁이었음을 밝혔다.
Abstract
Director Wong Kar Wai’s Fallen Angels has many elements that hinder understanding, such as flashy virtuosity, mixed time and space, and sudden gunfights and fighting scenes. However, as director Wang said, this film also has something to do with Hong Kong, so it can only be interpreted in relation to the return of Hong Kong in 1997. In this paper, Fallen Angels is interpreted as forced oblivion and its response. The first story is the story of one party forcing oblivion and the other side resolutely rejecting it, centering on the insert song <Forget him>. The thesis was developed focusing on the gap between the title and lyrics of this inserted song. The second story is the story of the abandoned female protagonist and the male protagonist who has a crush on her and is also abandoned. It was revealed that the work was another memory struggle, focusing on the ‘expiry date of emotions’ that the male lead feels while parting with his girlfriend and father one after another.
