의미지도모형의 관점에서 본 고대중국어 인식양상의 기원과 발전
The Origins and Developments of Ancient Chinese Epistemic Modality from the Perspective of the Semantic Map Model

본 연구는 van der Auwera et al.(1998)와 范曉蕾(2014, 2016, 2017, 2021) 등이 제시한 방법론에 근거하여 고대중국어 인식양상 표현들의 기원과 발전을 새롭게 관찰하고 해석하였다. 范曉蕾는 일련의 연구에서 현대중국어 방언 자료를 근거로 중국어 실정에 부합하는 중국어 양상 관련 개념공간을 새롭게 구축한 바 있다. 본고는 해당 연구를 고대중국어 조동사의 사용 현황에 적용시켜 타당성을 검토해 보았다. 분석 결과 다음의 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 참여자 외재 가능(participant-external possibility)의 내부를 분리하여, 중성류 [조건]과 주어지향류 [능력]을 묶어 하나의 상위범주로 구분하고, [도의허가], [조건허가]를 다른 하나의 상위범주로 구분할 수 있다. 분리된 [조건가능]만이 [인식가능]과 연관되며 나머지 세 기능과는 직접적으로 관련되지 않는다. 조동사 ‘能’, ‘可’, ‘得’의 발전이 대체로 이에 부합한다. 둘째, 양상의 개념공간에서 [내재능력]의 하위개념을 [항상능력]과 [특정능력]으로 구분할 필요가 있다. 이중 총칭적 행위의 능력을 나타내는 [항상능력]은 [조건필연]-[예측성미래]-[인식개연]의 경로로 발전한다. 조동사 ‘解’, ‘會’의 발전이 대체로 이에 부합한다. 셋째, 양상 개념공간에서 ‘참여자 외재 필요’는 논리적으로 [환경필요]와 [도의필요]를 포함한다. 두 종류의 [필요]가 주관화되어 [인식필연]으로 발전하였다. 조동사 ‘宜’, ‘當’, ‘應’, ‘合’, ‘須’의 발전이 대체로 이에 부합한다.
Abstract
This study newly observed and interpreted the origin and development of expressions of ancient Chinese recognition patterns based on the methodology proposed by van der Auwera et al. (1998) and 范曉蕾 (2014, 2016, 2017, 2021). In a series of studies, 范曉蕾 has newly established a conceptual space related to Chinese patterns that conform to the Chinese situation based on modern Chinese dialect data. This paper applied this study to the use status of ancient Chinese auxiliary verbs to examine its validity. As a result of the analysis, the following conclusions were obtained. First, [ability] is divided into [conditional possibility] and [internal ability]. [Permission] is divided into [conditional permission] and [deontic permission]. Of these, only [conditional permission] is related to [epistemic possibility] and not directly related to the other three functions. The development of the auxiliary verbs ‘能’, ‘可’, and ‘得’ generally corresponds to this. Second, the sub-concept of [internal ability] is divided into [constant ability] and [specific ability]. Among them, [constant ability], which represents the ability of generic action, develops into the path of [conditional necessity]-[predictable future]-[epistemic probability]. The development of the auxiliary verbs ‘解’ and ‘會’ generally corresponds to this. Third, ‘necessity’ includes [environmental necessity] and [deontic necessity]. Two types of [necessity] were subjectified and developed into [perception necessity]. The development of the auxiliary verbs ‘宜’, ‘當’, ‘應’, ‘combination’, and ‘須’ generally corresponds to this.
