오카쿠라 덴신(岡倉天心)의 일본미의식 탐구는 시기별로 진화하는 과정을 보여주었다. 시간의 경과와 함께 그의 시야는 확대되어 조형물을 중심으로 일본미의식을 귀납적으로 추출하던 시기부터 국가주의와 결합하거나 아시아주의와 결합하는 등 변화를 보였다. 시간적으로도 헤이안(平安)시대, 가마쿠라(鎌倉)시대, 무로마치(室町) 및 모모야마(桃山)시대로 이어지는 각 시대별 미의식을 순서에 맞춘 듯이 구성하는 치밀함을 보였다. 가장 첫 시기는 강의 <일본미술사>에 드러나 있듯이 일본미술사를 통해 귀납한 우미함을 일본미의식의 중심적인 특징으로 파악했고, 두 번째 시기에는 국가주의와 결합되며 미술 장르로는 역사화, 미의식에서는 무사도를 부각시켰다. 세 번째 시기에는 아시아로 확장되며 『차책(茶の本)』The Book of Tea을 중심으로 다도에 드러난 일본미의식을 전체 아시아문명 속에 위치시키려 하였다.
Abstract
Okakura Tenshin’s exploration of Japanese aesthetics showed the process of evolving by period. With the passage of time, his vision expanded and changed from the time when Japanese aesthetics were inductively extracted from the artistic objects, combined with nationalism or Asianism. In terms of time, the aesthetic consciousness of each period, leading to the Heian period, Kamakura period, Muromachi and Momoyama period, was shown in order, as if it were in order. In the first period, as revealed in the lecture <Japanese Art History>, the grace induced through Japanese art history was identified as a central feature of Japanese aesthetics, and in the second period, it was combined with nationalism, and history painting as an art genre, and Samurai spirit was emphasized in aesthetics. In the third period, it was expanded to Asia and attempted to place Japanese aesthetics in the entire Asian civilization centering on of aesthetic consciousness of Tea ceremony as in The Book of Tea.
