Abstract

The Study on the history of Joseon of Mordern Japan starts to narrate the history of Japan. It kept going with extending imperialism. The Joseonsa of Joseon History Compilation Committee of the Japanese Government-General of Joseon which published 35 books in 1938 was the most authoritative product of the research on the history of Joseon. This paper examines the activities of the Manchu History Investigation Department in the course of the series. The following are the results of analyzing the data and publications at the beginning of the investigation department included in Goto Shinpei Document. First, the Manchurian Historical Investigation Department began with the practical need to become a pervasive pillar of post - Russo - Japanese war. Second, the purpose of the original research was to study Manchuria, but the proportion of Joseon research was high. And it clarified the national and geographical boundaries between Manchuria and Joseon. Goguryeo and Bohai were classified as the history of the Manchurian nation, and the history of the Korean people centered on Silla was confined to the peninsula based on the borders of the time. The last, the compilation, verification and historical geography of the Manchu Historical Investigation Department formulated a framework for defining the scope of the shipyard by presenting systematic and empirical research results to the academic community. The Joseon Governor-General’s compilation project of the Joseonsa began with the results of the Manchu History Investigation Department as a basic framework and has expanded the study on the history of Joseon.
