Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the the Suwa-god in Moriya-Mitsujane- Kakitome as a clue to the aspects of the Suwa-god in Suwa-dai-myojin-Ekotoba. First, an article about thick blood flowing into a lotus pond on the grounds of the Suwa Kamisha Omiya on April 16, 1471, indicating that the Suwa-god was a military deity. The Suwa-god also manifested their divine authority as gods of national defense, as it is written that the Mongols rose up and came to Japan, that is, the gods of Suwa, Sumiyoshi, and Hachiman stood against them because of the invasion of enemies from abroad. Furthermore, in Suwa-dai-myojin-Ekotoba, the Suwa-god not only manifested his deity as a present deity, but also protected Empress Jingu together with Sumiyoshi-god before she sailed for Silla. Since the conquest of the foreign bandits was described as being due to the Suwa Shrine’s spiritual inspiration, and the country was protected by the conquest of the foreign bandits, the Suwa-god revealed his divine status as a protector deity. In addition, in Suwa-dai-myojin-Ekotoba tells the origin of the identity of Hachiman Daibosatsu, Suwa and Sumiyoshi, and in Moriya-Mitsujane-Kakitome, it was said that the thick blood flowing out of the lotus pond in the grounds of the Suwa Kamisha Omiya was the result of a battle between the gods Suwa, Sumiyoshi and Hachiman, and that the Suwa-god, who is the deity of the identity of Sumiyoshi and Hachiman, was the one who stood against the Mongol invasion and brought the country to its knees. Suwa, the same deity as Sumiyoshi and Hachiman, stood up against the invasion from the Mongolian invaders and protected the country. And in the article on the pursuit of Abe Takamaru in Suwa-dai-myojin-Ekotoba, the Suwa-god as a military deity was depicted as a follower of the shogun to protect Ojo(the royal castle). Finally, in Suwa-dai-myojin-Ekotoba, it was said that the Ando Rebellion(Emishi Rebellion, Tsugaru Rebellion), that broke out at the end of the Kamakura period due to internal disputes among the Tsugaru Ando clan and the rebellion of the Eastern barbarians deeply related to it were settled by the mighty divine power of the Suwa-god as a god to protect the Honcho(Japan). And the Suwa-god was recognized as the divine virtue for the protection of the Honcho and the spiritual power to subdue foreign enemies. And this divine character of the Suwa-god as a god of defense of the Honcho also appears in Moriya-Mitsujane-Kakitome, where he is depicted as a being who stands against the Mongols along with the gods of Sumiyoshi and Hachiman.
