Abstract
This research was conducted in order to create grounds for active use of forest therapy as a stresscoping methods by verifying the effects of each activities: forest therapy activity, hiking and forest bathing, andAerobic. For the experiment, participants are divided into three groups which as Group A: Forest therapy activity(25persons), Group B: hiking and forest bathing(20 persons), and Group C: Aerobic activities (25 persons). Theexperiment period was from September 2012 to September 2013 and during the period, Group A participated inthe forest therapy program at Jang-Seong forest, while at the same place Group B participated in hiking and forestbathing. Also, Group C participated in Aerobic activities at Gym. According to the result, Group A showedstatistically significant difference in all categories before and after the program: ‘physical stress’, ‘mental stress’, ‘stressresistance’ and ‘stress index’, as Group B showed statistically significant difference in ‘mental stress’ and ‘stress index’. And Group C participated in Aerobic, showed difference before and after the program in all categories, but theresult was not statistically significant. This indicates that forest therapy is proved to be the more effective in relievingphysical and mental stress and building up stress-resistance physiologically than aerobic, hiking and other forestactivities. Therefore, an active enforcement of forest therapy is demanded for people as stress coping methods interms of forest recreation welfare.
