Abstract
There has been a growing need for more healing forests to address social health issues, such as mental health problems and environment-related diseases. Prior research has provided substantial theoretical discussion and empirical evidence to propose systematic and professional evaluation criteria for planting healing forests in the most effective locations. This paper contributes to this line of research by addressing the heterogeneous perspectives among different groups of stakeholders. Therefore, this study aims to demonstrate how various groups of stakeholders have differing priorities regarding the evaluation criteria. A comprehensive literature review and sequential expert interviews were conducted to identify key evaluation criteria for determining the locations of healing forests. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was then employed to examine how different groups of stakeholders—government officials and forest healing instructors—perceive the value of these criteria differently. Our findings show that these groups place varying levels of priority on the evaluation criteria. For example, while government officials prioritize the healing and construction environment over accessibility, forest healing instructors perceive accessibility as a more important criterion than construction environment. Our findings suggest that it is crucial not only to develop evaluation criteria but also to consider the opinions of different stakeholder groups and mediate their perspectives.
