초록
As Smartphones have become popularized among all age groups, SNS instant messengers have become a cultural phenomenon representing the current mobile era. In particular, KakaoTalk has the largest user base for an SNS messaging service provider, and the users tend to engage in conversation on very personal and private issues. Given the nature of the medium and the types of topics and users, several new communication-related features have been observed. First, KakaoTalk has generated a semi-form of spoken and written languages. Second, since it takes approximately three to ten times more time to type in phonemes than to verbally utter them, KakaoTalk users often use only initial phoneme or a radically shortened vocabulary, so as to be on par with the utterance speed. Third, the presence of semi-spoken language facilitates the adoption/creation of nonverbal features, with which people can deliver feelings or gestures as effectively as in actual face-to-face dialogs. Conversations occurring over KakaoTalk often come with writing akin to sounds and with spelling ignored, additive particles at the ends of sentences, vowel changes, or nominal sentences closing with “um” or “sum” type. By noting such new phenomena involving SNS messengers, the current research analyzes actual conversation logs acquired at KakaoTalk and identifies several characteristics concerning verbal and nonverbal expressions.
