초록
Because variety entertainment programs present conversations on various themes for fun, it may be assumed that they include a diversity of devices for interactive communication among the participants. Thus, focusing on the use of added words that is one of the signs of interactive communication, this study examined the use of added words in entertainment programs. As previous studies concentrated on the analysis of discourse functions based on grammatical classification, this study began with curiosity about what difference there would be in discourse functions between new information and old information when classification based on information type is adopted as a criterion. For this study, we chose eight popular entertainment programs of terrestrial broadcasting systems, investigated the use of added words, and divided them into new information and old information. The findings showed that added words of old information were overwhelmingly more frequent. Next, when the discourse functions of added words in each type of information were examined, those of old information were used usually for the specification of information contents and those of new information for inducing laughter. Accordingly, it was found that ‘specification of information contents,’ which was suggested as the most important function of added words, should be described limitedly for added words of old information. Another finding was that old information has the function of active expression of sympathy while new information has the function of stimulating curiosity and interest. As it was also confirmed that added words of old information and new information have both the same structure at the moment when urgency and importance are bestowed as in word order adjustment, commonalities and differences between information types were clarified. Because the characteristics of the entertainment programs analyzed in this study may affect the distribution of added words, it is considered necessary to explore the discourse functions of added words according to information type based on a larger variety of data.
