연구 설계에서는 비무작위 대조실험 연구인 Non-RCTs(Randomized cotrolled trial; 0.709)가 무작위 대조실험 연구인 RCTs(0.479)보다 더 큰 효과를 보였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to provide foundational data for the future design of forest healing programs targeting middle-aged women by examining the effects of such programs on this population through a systematic review and meta-analysis. For the systematic review, 36 studies were selected from domestic and international search engines. The quality and general characteristics of these studies were assessed. For the meta-analysis, the effect size (Hedges’ g value) was analyzed using the dedicated analysis program CMA 4.0. The overall effect size was found to be 0.549, indicating a medium to large effect, with a high heterogeneity of 76.2%. To identify the source of this heterogeneity, effect sizes were compared and analyzed across various subgroup variables. In terms of study design, Non-RCTs (0.709) showed a larger effect than RCTs (0.479). Patients (0.102) exhibited a higher effect size compared to healthy individuals, and structured programs led by healing instructors (0.776) demonstrated a greater effect than self-directed programs or indirect experiences. Additionally, psychological healing effects (0.640) were higher than physical healing effects. The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis confirm that forest healing for middle-aged women has an overall significant and positive effect on their physical, mental, and cognitive health. However, given the very high heterogeneity, more high-quality RCT studies are needed for a more integrated interpretation due to the diverse characteristics of the included individual studies. It is expected that such subsequent research will contribute to maximizing the potential of forest healing in improving the quality of life for middle-aged women and developing effective evidence-based intervention programs.
