The purpose of this study is to reconsider the concept of politeness in Korean, distinguish its concepts, and examine politeness with a focus on the speech functions of sentence- final endings realized in spoken Korean. The research methodology involves collecting data through an online survey and using Chat GPT to analyze the directive strength and degree of politeness of each example sentence from the collected data. Chapter 2 reviews the concepts of politeness, politeness strategies, and polite expressions used in academic research through a literature review and systematizes the process of how politeness manifests. In Chapter 3, actual example sentences were developed to understand the directive strength and degree of politeness in the sentence-final endings of spoken Korean. A survey was conducted with native Korean speakers using these developed examples, asking them to rate the directive strength and degree of politeness for each example, and the responses were compiled. The directive strength and degree of politeness for each sentence were quantified and converted into data. ChatGPT was then used to analyze the correlation between these factors. It demonstrates that various sentence- final endings exhibit different levels of directive strength and politeness, and the correlation between directive strength and politeness may vary depending on the context. Notably, the use of Chat GPT for politeness analysis showed significant advantages in terms of efficiency and accuracy.
