본 연구는 지속적인 매립으로 나타난 마카오의 지리적 변천을 통해 이루어진 도시구조의 변화를 고찰하고, 마카오 구도시 내에 위치한 세계유산을 도시경관의 변화의 관점에서 분석하였다. 중국의 남동부 주장 강 하구에 위치하고 있는 마카오는 마카오 반도와 남쪽의 타이파 섬, 콜로안 섬, 매립지 코타이로 구성되어 있다. 현재도 지속적으로 진행되고 있는 매립을 통하여 마카오의 면적은 계속 확대되고 있다. 이러한 마카오는 포르투갈이 점령하기 전의 동양 문화와 포르투갈이 점령한 후에 유입된 서양 문화의 결합을 볼 수 있는 역사적, 문화적 의미의 독특한 도시경관을 지니고 있으며 최근에는 매립된 지역에 세워진 큰 호텔들과 카지노로 대표되는 현대적 도시경관까지 포함하고 있다. 마카오에 위치한 세계유산 역시 이러한 마카오의 독특한 도시경관을 대변하고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the transformation of urban structure according to the continuous land reclaimed from the sea and to analyze the World Heritage sites from the viewpoint of changing townscape in Macao. The City of Macao is located at the estuary of Pearl river in the southeastern part of China and connected to three islands-Taipa, Coloane and reclaimed island of Cotai by three bridges. The area of Macao is continuously expanded by the reclaimed land. Townscape of Macao shows three different layers. First is the townscape of Oriental culture before the Portugal arrives, Second is the Western townscape created after the colonization of Portugal in the 16th century. And the present final stage indicates modern townscape with large hotels and casinos constructed in the Cotai island region. World Heritage sites in Macao is also represented such an unique urban historic landscape made from the geographical transforamation through time.
