Abstract
This study focuses on the spatiotemporal characteristics of Yoko Tawada's Scattered All Over The Earth, which is based on a future society, as a narrative strategy to reveal the theme of the novel. First, the novel describes facts about the countries that make up Europe close to reality, but simultaneously inserts fictional content that is different from reality everywhere. Even if it is fictional, it is based on facts, and because it mixes with facts or creates imaginary episodes in comparison with real problems, it is not only accepted as part of reality, but also highlights the problems of modern society. In addition, since the Europe depicted in the novel is not very different from reality, the present of the novel is accepted as the same age as reality, but this novel has identified the future. In addition, in the way of dissolving and stopping the flow of time, both the ‘Nuclear Accident’ and the ‘Extinction of Japan,’ which occurred at intervals of more than 50 years in Japan, are recognized as current events. Through this narrative strategy, it realizes the imaginary future of Japan’s extinction and simultaneously effectively captures various problems in modern society, such as nuclear power generation, global warming, the social welfare system, and refugees.
