우리나라 대기업의 조직역량 및 선과분석: 환경적합성과 조직내부적 적합성간의 상충적 관계에 대한 고찰

본 논문은 우리 나라 대기업 계열사의 환경적합성과 내부적합성이 계열사의 성과에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석하고 있다. 특히 본 논문에서는 다각화된 기업의 계열사를 표본으로 했을 때 사업부 수준을 중심으로 개발된 전략이론이 어느 정도 적용될 수 있는가를 알아보기 위해 우리나라 50대 그룹의 258개 계열사를 표본으로 하여 가설을 검증하고 있다. 실증분석의 결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, 환경적합성과 조직내부적 적합성간에 상충적인 관계가 성립하는 경우는 규모가 상대적으로 작고, 독립된 기업에 한정된다는 점. 둘째, 다각화된 기업에 속한 계열사의 경우에는 환경적합성만으로는 높은 성과를 기대할 수 없다는 점. 셋째, 다각화된 기업에 속한 계열사들이 성과를 높이기 위해서는 환경적합성이나 혹은 조직내부적 적합성의 확보 뿐 아니라 기업수준에서의 시너지효과 창출이 필요하다는 것이다. 분석결과로부터 얻은 주된 결론은 다각화된 기업에 속한 계열사에게 있어 핵심역량, 즉 성과를 향상시키는 원동력은 각 계열사의 환경적합성과 조직내부적 적합성 뿐 아니라 기업수준에서의 시너지 창출 노력이 수반되어야 한다는 것이다.

Abstract

This study examines fits among environment, structure, and decision-making processes and the impact of fits among these three constructs on firm's performance. Unlike other studies on these issues, this paper explores the applicability of diversification theories developed from the perspective of divisions to the context of subsidiaries of diversified firms. Questionnaire obtained from 258 subsidiaries of 50 Korean diversified enterprises (Chaebol) are used for empirical analyses and hypotheses testing. Findings are as follow.First, the conflicting relationship between external fit and internal fit exists only when the firm is small and is not member of the diversified firms. Second, for the subsidiaries with the diversified firms external fit does not guarantee better performance. Third, for the subsidiaries within the diversified firms to achieve high performance it is necessary to create synergistic effects at the corporate HQ, as well as external fit or internal fit.
