Abstract

In quick commerce (q-commerce) retail industry, sellers bear the cost of transporting goods. Therefore, minimizing these costs is crucial for location decisions. Previous research on retail location from a transportation perspective has focused on analyzing the general location tendencies of individual stores using network centrality. However, this approach has limitations when it comes to assessing the transport efficiency of multi-location brands. In this study, we introduce a modified network centrality index called “OD (origin-destination) network centrality”, which calculates network centrality at the brand level. Using this approach, we compared the transportation costs of quick commerce and offline retail brands and found that quick commerce has a location advantage in terms of closeness. We were also able to derive the straightness and betweenness of the road network used by each brand. The research findings not only highlight the potential of the new urban industry, but also suggest methodological alternatives for brand-level centrality analysis.
