초록
The purpose of this study is to find the syntactic rules in quotative clauses in 17th century's Korean. This paper can be summarized as follows. Quotation is divided into direct quotation and indirect quotation. Direct quotation is divided into direct transmission and indirect transmission. Direct transmission is a typical direct quotation that transfer one's speech directly. Indirect transmission is a direct quotation that transfer the writings, the ancients's words or the public's words. Indirect quotation is divided into abstract indirect quotation and transformational indirect quotation. Among the direct transmission, a pattern ‘× [ ] nirɨ-’ was far more used in 17th century compared with 15th․16th century. It means that the direct transmission pattern gets near to modern pattern. In 17th century's documents, indirect transmission was frequently used, because many examples quoted book's contents. A pattern ‘nil-on-ba(닐온 바)’ appeared from 17th century, that is connected with ‘i-rɨn-ba(이른바)’ in modern Korean. ‘-kho(-코)’ was productively used from 17th century, that seems the matrix of a quotation mark ‘-ko(-고)’ in modern Korean.
