초록
The purpose of this study is to find out the similarities and differences in linguistic and sociolinguistic aspects of the 60th birthday greetings. To this end, this study investigates the actual linguistic expressions of the 60th birthday greetings and conducts an online survey regarding the 60th birthday greetings in South Korea and Singapore. However, research on the expressions of greetings on the 60th birthday has been insufficient in previous studies. Moreover, it is meaningful to consider the expressions of 60th birthday greetings at a time when human lifespan is increasing. As a result of the survey, what's in common is that both the peoples express their concerns about the seniors' longevity and heathy life. Koreans mainly use 'health' related expressions such as “Live a long and healthy life.”and Singaporeans mainly use expressions related to 'health', such as “Wishing you good health (51.6%)”. The difference is that while the greeting, 'Happy birthday (29.1% of teenagers, 23.3% of 20s)' is mostly used by Koreans in their 20s and teenagers, the same expression 'Happy birthday (49.3%)' is mostly used by the teenagers in Singapore.
