유아교육기관 극 놀이의 현장적용 한계와 가능성

The limits and possibilities of dramatic play application within childhood institutions

초록

본 연구의 목적은 유아교육기관에서 실천해오고 있는 극 놀이를 현장에 적용하는 과정에서 제기되는 한계를 살펴보고, 현장교육의 이해를 기초로 한 극 놀이의 현장적용 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 극 놀이의 특성과 연구 동향을 놀이 연구 동향의 흐름 속에서 살펴보았다. 놀이 이론과 실제 간에 차이가 생기는 이유를 극 놀이 현장적용의 한계로 보고, 이를 교사 개입의 어려움, 극 놀이 지도의 어려움, 극 놀이 자료 제공의 어려움이라는 세 측면에서 논의하였다. 즉, 극 놀이에 개입할 때 교사들은 학급 운영과 관련된 현실적인 어려움, 개입에 관한 문화적인 견해차이, 그리고 개입이라는 용어의 부정적인 의미와 모호함으로 인해 극 놀이의 현장적용에 있어 한계를 경험한다. 또한 집단적으로 극 놀이를 지도하는 경우에 교사들을 위한 극 놀이의 구체적인 지도 방법이 나타나있지 않아 교사들은 한계에 부딪힌다. 집단적인 극 놀이의 대안으로 연극 놀이를 적용하려는 교사들은 연극 놀이 지도방법에서 강조하는 즉흥성과 지도방법의 다양성으로 인해 극 놀이를 현장에 적용하는 데 어려움을 겪는다. 교사들이 제공해야 할 극 놀이의 자료 선정 기준의 모호함과 극 놀이 자료에 대한 정보의 부족은 현장적용의 또 다른 한계점이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 극 놀이의 현장적용의 한계를 토대로 해서 극 놀이를 바람직하게 현장에 적용하기 위해, 현장교육에 기초한 극 놀이 연구방법론, 극 놀이 특성, 교사의 역할 전환이라는 측면에서 그 가능성을 논의하였다.

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to investigate the limits of performing dramatic play in kindergarten through literature review and to find some ways to apply these dramatic play in the real world. For these purposes, I first explored the characteristics and research trends of dramatic play in early childhood education. In doing this, I examined the reason why a gap existed between theory and actual practice. I then discussed the causes of these limits in terms of three issues: teacher intervention, teacher guidance, and materials for dramatic play. Teachers experience difficulties in applying dramatic play practically because of classroom management, cultural differences between teacher and students during the teacher's intervention, and the negative meaning and ambiguity of the word 'intervention.' Teachers also experience the limits of applying dramatic play because of the lack of explicit methods when they teach collaboratively. The teachers who attempt creative play as the alternative activity to collaborative dramatic play have difficulties because of the methods that focus on promptness and diversity. In addition, teachers suffer the limits of application of dramatic plays from the implicit criteria for the selection of materials and the shortage of information for appropriate materials for children. Based on these limits, I suggest that research methods that focus on action research, the characteristics of dramatic play, and the change in the teacher's role can be possibilities of dramatic play application.
