이 글은 기초학습부진학생의 지도과정에서 발생한 현장교사의 개인적 경험들을 자문화기술지를 통해 밝히고자 하였다. 이 글은 이러한 시도를 통하여 현행 기초학습부진학생의 구제방식에 대한 문제점과 그 한계를 조명함으로써 기초학습부진학생들의 지도방식에 대한 대안적 관점과 접근을 찾고자 하였다. 구체적인 연구결과와 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기초학습부진학생들을 누가 가르칠 것인가는 학교구성원의 한 개인에게 책임을 전가할 수 없다. 둘째, 학습부진의 실제적 원인을 규명하는 일은 문서상의 가정환경 기초조사나 각종 심리검사를 통한 과학적이고 처방적인 방식으로는 한계가 있다. 셋째, 기초학습부진학생들은 일반학급보다 더욱 이질적인 집단이다. 따라서 현장교사들에게는 기존의 수준별지도와는 다른 방식의 대응과 가르침이 필요하다. 넷째, 방학 중 특별보충 프로그램의 운영방식에 대한 발상의 전환이 필요하다. 방학 중 특별보충 프로그램의 운영방식은 기초학습부진학생들의 기초학력을 신장시키는데 일부분 도움을 주었지만, 동시에 고비용저효율의 문제점을 드러내었다. 따라서 기초학습부진학생들의 장점과 특기를 살린 체험과 활동중심의 교수학습 활동이 필요하다.
Abstract
This paper aims to illuminate the teaching experiences of underachievers through autoethnography of an elementary schoolteacher. This study then scrutinizes alternative perspective and approach for underachievers through problems and limits of teaching method. The specific results and conclusions are as follows:First, the problem on who must teach underachievers should not transfer to another member (for instance, a teacher in charge) of the elementary school. Second, an educational plan examining the origin of underachievement through scientific and prescriptive method should be put in place,; archival surveys and psychological tests are not effective on helping underachievers' learning. Third, the class of underachievers was more heterogeneous than the general class. Therefore, elementary school teachers should consider alternative teaching strategies, which is quite different from instruction plan by level. Fourth, we need to reconsider the supplementary short-term program for underachievers during summer vacation as it was not efficient in raising academic achievement. The characteristics of the supplementary short-term program was high expense and low efficiency. Therefore, elementary school and elementary schoolteachers should develop alternative teaching-learning program, rooted in the experiences and activities of underachievers.
