《고등국어문전(高等國語文典)》의 성립 과정 재론 - 주시경 저술과의 비교를 중심으로 -

Abstract

GodeungGugeoMunjeon(Advanced Korean Grammar) has long been regarded as a work authored by Ju Si-gyeong. However, certain elements within the text differ from Ju's known linguistic stance, raising questions about the authorship of the book. This study refrains from assuming Ju Si-gyeong as the author and instead investigates the formation process of GodeungGugeoMunjeon through a detailed comparison with his other writings. The content of GodeungGugeoMunjeon is divided into four major parts: (1) interpretation of the Hunminjeongeum preface, (2) classification of consonants and vowels, (3) description of phonological changes, and (4) categorization of parts of speech. Each section is meticulously compared with corresponding content in Ju Si-gyeong’s established works. The findings suggest that GodeungGugeoMunjeon was not authored by Ju himself but was likely compiled and reorganized into a textbook format by another figure, based on his 1910 work GugeoMunbeop(Korean Grammar). This individual appears to have been closely acquainted with Ju’s evolving grammatical theory.
