Abstract

This study is a post-qualitative inquiry that investigates early childhood teacher∼researchers’ reading performativity newly based on the perspective of Posthumanism. Thinking with Posthuman theories of Deleuze, Guattari, Barad, and Lenz Taguchi, I focused on three research questions. The generated data is as follows: first, the epistemological limits of traditional ways of ‘reading’; secondly, different performativity of ‘Posthuman reading’; and third, towards ‘Posthuman reading’ community of inquiry. First of all, traditional ways of reading based on humanism reduce the meaning of reading as ‘knowledge acquisition and understanding’ by presuming representational image of thought and strictly separated independent body that has boundary. However, Posthuman reading disturbs the dualism between theory/practice, subject/object, and human/non-human, and produces different performativity such as reading as ethico-onto-epistemological becoming and reading as encounters. Finally, I suggest ‘Posthuman reading’ community of inquiry which becomes together-apart (Barad, 2014) based on the relational ontological turn. Concept is not something already made or fixed but only becoming (Deleuze & Guattari, 1991). I hope that the conceptual change into Posthuman reading would produce differences of pedagogical performativity in the early childhood field by generating new imagination and ideas for the early childhood teacher∼researchers.
