(A person is a person by other people).’

Abstract

The development of the concept of peace in South Africa has historically been contextualized towards the equal rights, reconciliation, and coexistence of ethnic groups. In South Africa, under the racial capitalist system, a small number of white rulers have constructed a structural framework that exploits or continues to create suffering to the black majority and other colored people. The whites made ideologies necessary for domination and exploitation, and used state power through laws and institutions. In the pre-apartheid era, the migrant white people violated the rights of indigenous Africans and non-white people, and between 1948 and 1994, apartheid racial discrimination policies were implemented to deepen divisions among ethnic groups. Since 1994, harmony and coexistence among racial and ethnic groups have become the most important issue. The concept of peace has become a key goal of coexistence to create a nation and people 's consciousness while respecting cultural and ethnic diversity. Under World Capitalism, South Africa's violent apartheid racism has created a social system to realize the desires of a few white people based on racial supremacy. This contradictory value system required a value system for the benefit of the community rather than the individual with the anti-apartheid movement. Under these circumstances, Ubuntu was understood as an alternative to the unique pursuit of peace that heavily rescues South Africa's racial discrimination and conflicts in the (apart) apartheid era, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) It can be said that it is implemented through. Ubuntu means 'humanity' and can be expressed in the words 'A person is a person by other people'. Although the Ubuntu philosophy recognizes and accepts differences, it is a value system and a worldview of the African people who are rooted in interdependence and coexistence stemming from community consciousness, rather than individualism. During the post-apartheid period, Ubuntu made South Africans with different beliefs and cultures, including different races, peoples, and religions, to accept the otherness and that spirit was expressed through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). This was a path to coexistence with the recognition of the diversity of South Africa and the healing of South Africa, which has long been stifled by oppression, discrimination, violence and resistance. This article will examine how the concept of peace in South Africa was contextualized by Ubuntu and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
