초록
The Africa diaspora can be defined as “a dispersion, settlement and return of Africans in and out of African continent”. The dispersion is the departure of African to the outside of African continent. Two directions can be mentioned: Asian countries, including Middle East, through Indian Ocean and Western countries, including European and American countries, through Atlantic Ocean. The most cardinal feature of African diaspora is the slave trade which had started from 16th century to Western countries, but there had been earlier slave trade around Indian Ocean well before it. One point is that African diaspora is considered as an inferior to the master European communities. Military power and communications systems enabled Europeans to establish and maintain political and economic hegemonies over African diaspora. Nevertheless, African diaspora had successfully challenged them and gained politico-economic as well as cultural independent. The paper shows a particular interest on cultural creolization of which African diaspora has actively produced and reproduced in the course of their diasporic history. Sidhi in India and Creole in the Caribbean are distinguishable cases. Unfortunately, African studies in Korea has paid no attention on the issue. As globalization is a dominant cultural phenomenon, cultural complexity and creolization becomes most striking cultural features. To understand it properly, we need to pay our attention on the study of African diaspora.
