This paper studies Choi Inhoon's novel The Gray Man. The Gray Man clearly shows the problem of the Korean reality: colonialism in the customs and recognitions. His intention is to present the methods to escape from western modernity or colonial modernity. Christian and western history have the same narrative in his novel. So he criticized Christian, Christian narrative and attention of western history. He appropriated the epic recalls. But he emphasized coincidence of history and false of memory. Because they show the way to overcome problems. But It is not enough to the methods to escape from western modernity. He offers the limit that do not go back to western modern nor Korean traditions.
Abstract
