오늘날 이웃사랑은 어떻게 가능한가: 지젝의 이웃사랑의 윤리를 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss what the commandment “Love your neighbor as yourself!” means to us today and how we can advocate it in terms of Žižek’s ethics of neighbor-love. Žižek insists that we must accept the fundamental otherness of neighbor through the symbolic order, if we will bring the neighbor-love to a completion. We must also love not only the neighbors who are regulated by the symbolic order and so overwhelmed by the ‘signifiant,’ but also those who are excluded or oppressed from the social system. And we must love the third party, the neighbors of neighbor, who are not facing us personally. It allows them not to be excluded from our neighbor-love and at the same time make us love close neighbors. The modern meaning of neighbor-love is to treat those who are excluded from social order(for example, laws and institutions) as members of equal rights and to love them as neighbors. With this neighbor-love, modern people can escape from the narcissistic self-structure of the subject and form a relationship of love with new ethical subjects, without being locked in the uniformity enforced by the symbolic norms and the hierarchical system of existence. And then, based on this, we will be able to open a new ethical real world where the neighbor-love to each other can be realized.
