성경 번역의 ‘수용성’ 연구: 어린이와 어른 성경 문체 비교 중심으로

본 논고는 성경 번역에 있어서 어린이(미성년)와 어른의 문체 차이로 인한 ‘수용성’ 여부를 연구한 것이다. ‘수용성’은 보그란드와 드레슬러가 주장한 ‘텍스트성’(textuality)의 하나이다. 어린이와 어른의 성경 문체를 비교·분석하기 위해 여덟 가지 방법으로 시행을 했는데 그에 해당하는 예로는 어린이 그룹을 네 부류(A, B, C, D)로 성인그룹을 네 부류(A-1, B-1, C-1, D-1)로 나누어 세부적으로 각 문체에 따른 번역 결과물의 수용 여부를 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 성경 번역의 문체 비교에서 독자들은 격식체를 선호한다는 것을 관찰할 수 있었고, 성경 특유의 문체를 선호한다는 것 또한 밝혀졌다. 독자의 입장에서 번역가가 번역하는 것은 ‘수용성’을 높일 수 있는 좋은 방법이 된다는 것이 번역학의 이론이자 보그란드와 드레슬러의 주장이다. 그러나 성경 번역의 경우 예외가 되며, 독자에 대해서 너무 고려하여 번역하면 오히려 효과적이지 못한 번역이 될 수 있다는 것이 본 논고의 결론이다.
Abstract
This study investigates the differences of children and adults’ ‘acceptability’ in bible translation. Acceptability is one of textualites in translation theories of Beaugrande and Dressler. To analyze and compare the style of children and adults bible translation, I have used eight methods. In other words, I divided surveyors into eight groups; in large, children group and adult group, and then more in detail, children groups were divided in four steps and also adult groups did so. As a result of study, as the style of bible translation, the readers tend to prefer to accept the formal style, unique styles for bible. It is important for translators to consider the readers’ places, including their age, their knowledge level or something like that. But in bible translation, it could be an exception for those cases. If translators stick to the unique style of bible, without too much consideration for them, it will be more effective and equivalent for readers.
