영화 <첨밀밀>과 <8월의 크리스마스> 속 사랑의 불안함과 머뭇거림

영화 <첨밀밀>과 <8월의 크리스마스>는 운명적이고 순수한 사랑을 다룬다는 점에서 유사성을 갖는다. 더욱이 두 영화를 연출한 진가신과 허진호는 중국과 한국을 대표하는 멜로드라마의 거장이라는 점에서도 유사하다. 여기에 이 영화들이 모두 개봉된 지 십 수 년 후에 관객들에게 재개봉되었다는 점에서도 우연치 않은 공통점을 지닌다. 그런데 작품성과 대중성이라는 두 가지 성취를 모두 이룬 두 영화는 유사성만이 아닌 차이점도 존재한다. <첨밀밀>이 이교와 소군 모두 어쩔 수 없이 연인 이외의 사람을 사랑할 수밖에 없는 현실, 홍콩의 중국 반환이라는 사회 상황, 서양과 동양 문화의 대립적 배치 등과 같은 다층적인 소재를 풀어낸다면, <8월의 크리스마스>는 한 사람만을 바라보는 이상적인 사랑, 삶과 죽음을 대하는 자세, 정원이 대표하는 구세대와 다림으로 형상화된 신세대의 사랑 등의 소재를 보여준다는 점에서 차이를 보인다. 이글에서 우리는 불안함 속에서 피어나는 <첨밀밀>의 운명적 사랑과 머뭇거려서 오히려 순수한 <8월의 크리스마스> 속 사랑이 어떻게 오늘의 관객들에게 새로운 사랑의 스토리텔링으로서 감동을 줄 수 있는가를 밝혀보고자 한다.
Abstract
Christmas in August’ and ‘Comrades: Almost a Love Story’ has a similarity. Both films are all dealing with pure love and fate. Moreover, their directors Jin-ho Hur and Peter Chan are similar in terms of masters of melodrama representing Korea and China. In addition, one interesting thing the films have in common is re-opened to the audience after the opening, not tens of years. Nevertheless, the storytelling of these two films has also differences. The differences are as follows; ‘Christmas in August’ show a ideal love watching only one person, attitude treat life and death, and love between Jungwon representing the ascendant and Darim representing new generation. ‘Comrades: Almost a Love Story’ talks about a fateful love between Sogun and Iyo, the social situation of Hong Kong returned to China and the cultural contrast between East and West. In this article, we aim to present the storytelling of two kinds of loves, a pure hesitated love in ‘Christmas in August’ and a love in bloom anxiety in ‘Comrades: Almost a Love Story’.
