초록

Jong Mongju was a famous Neo-Confucianism philosopher, diplomat and poet during the late Goryeo Dynasty. While his poetry possesses high literary value, it also reflects profound scholarly knowledge, noble character, comprehensive literary perspectives, and other influences that transcend literary boundaries, exuding a strong personal charm and earning admiration and respect from later generations. Confucian thought influenced Jong Mongju in various aspects such as scholarship, morality, and poetic creation concepts, endowing him with ‘virtue’ and thereby laying the groundwork for his literary creation to have a say. At the same time, this also makes his poetic creations more emotionally, substantively, and formally aligned with the aesthetic requirements of Confucianism. More importantly, Jong Mongju’s sincere emotions, positive content, and formal expressions in these poems align with the idea of ‘Si Wu Xie’. Jong Mongju poured his abundant and passionate emotions into his poetry, praising historical figures and anecdotes of benevolence, integrity, loyalty to the king, and patriotism, while urging the monarch to implement benevolent governance and put the people at the center, thereby endowing his poems with strong resonance and thought-provoking. And whether it’s a quatrains or a regulated verse, Jong Mongju’s poetry is meticulous in both form and meter, adhering to Confucian rules. Therefore, it is clear that Jong Mongju consistently strives to achieve a highly integrated state of ‘Si Wu Xie’ in his poetry’s emotions, content, and expressive forms. In summary, the idea of ‘Si Wu Xie’ constantly shines in Jong Mongju’s poetry, inspiring, motivating, and touching the world, and having a wide-ranging impact on later generations.
