초록
Some studies that chronologically trace the dates of Protagoras’ life and death have been suggested in modern scholarship, such as the works by, for instance, J. S. Morrison (1941), J. A. Davison (1953), and U. Zilioli (2007). Despite the value of those works, however, some inconsistencies that bring forth controversy regarding the credibility of dates of Protagoras’ activities and the exact reason of the sophist’s expulsion from Athens, still remain. This paper aims to provide the most suitable dates of Protagoras’ life and death and the argument for the actual political reason of his expulsion at his time in the light of the sophist’s association with Pericles.
