이 연구는 ‘자녀응시’ 개념을 통해 <니하오, 리환잉>(2021)을 비판적으로 재고한다. 영화는 표면적으로 어머니를 독립적인 인격체로 구성하고 자율성을 부여하지만, 그 배후에는 늘 무의식적으로 자녀의 입장에서 어머니를 응시하고 있다. 따라서 이 영화는 여성에 의해 만들어진 여성 중심의 이야기이지만, 여성을 구속하는 전통적인 모성 규범에 도전함과 동시에 오히려 가부장제를 강화하는 역효과도 낳게 된다. 텍스트는 하나의 사례로서 가부장 사회에서 ‘자녀’로 매개하는 모성 기대가 어떻게 여성/어머니와 상호작용하고, 마침내 아래에서 위로 올라가는 세대간 역방향 모성 재생산을 이루는지를 보여준다.
Abstract
This study has reviewed the Chinese movie Hi, Mom(2021) from the perspective of the child’s gaze concept. It critically points out that while autonomy seems to be given to the ‘mom’ character, the film, in effect, unintentionally progresses from the child’s angle. Thus, instead of challenging the mothering tradition, this actually caters to the interests demanded by patriarchy. As a case study, the current article has clarified how the child-mediated mothering expectation interacted with the female characters in the patriarchal society, which eventually reproduced the bottom-up intergeneration mothering.
