Abstract
A new wheat variety, Anbaekmil was developed from the cross between Saemil and Geurumil by the wheat and bar-ley breeding team of the National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station (NYAES) in 2001. A promising line, YWM2078-3B-2-3-7, was selected in 1998, and designated as Milyang 36. The regional adaptation yield trials of Milyang 36 were carried outat four locations from 1999 to 2001. As that result, Milyang 36 was released as a lodging resistance, good quality, and high yield-ing wheat variety with the name of Anbaekmil in 2001 by the National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station (NYAES). Theheading date of Anbaekmil was 1 days earlier and the maturing date was 1 day later than those of Geurumil, respectively. It wasresistance to lodging but its wet tolerance and winter hardiness were not stronger than those of the Geurumil, respectively. Culmlength and spike length of Anbaekmil were 5 cm and 0.9 cm longer than those of the Geurumil. Its 1000 grain weight was 3.6 gheavier and the number of spikes per m2 was lower than those of Geurumil, respectively. The grain quality components of Anbaek-mil such as protein content, miling rate and miling score were better than those of Geurumil. The yield potential of Anbaekmilwas 6.18 MT/ha in upland and 5.42 MT/ha in paddy of regional trials during 1999-2001. This variety is suitable for double crop-ping system with rice in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.
