Abstract
This study was carried out to understand the genetic pattern of self-sterility, using a self-fertile variety Cheongyangnative 1 and nine self-sterile cultivars in cultivated boxthorn (Lycium chinense Mill., 2n=24). The inheritance of self-fertility (SF)was deduced using F1 progenies by selfing Cheongyang native 1 and also F1 progenies from crosses between self-fertile and self-sterile (SS) boxthorn cultivars. The offsprings produced from the selfing of Cheongyang native 1 (SF) segregated into a ratio of 10SF : 6 SS. The progenies of the crosses of SF cultivar with S cultivars gave a segregation ratio of 1 SF : 3 SS. All the offspringsobtained from the diferent cross combinations between S cultivars were self-sterile. So, a dominant modifier gene (M) mightinteract only with S-allele heterozygotes. The genotypes of Cheongyang native 1 and the SS cultivars were supposed to be SsMmand SSm, respectively.
