Abstract
This paper estimates population and housing density functions of a large city in both gross density and net density standard, in the case of Daegu metropolitan city. By comparing these estimates of the density functions, the following results are derived. First, Clark type of the negative exponential density function is well fit in gross density standard, but poor fit in net density standard. Second, the structural difference between monocentric city and policentric city is well reflected in the estimates. The trend of population suburbanization is better explained by the net density function than the monocentric-oriented gross density function. Third. the results also well reflect the difference between America's low-density dispersed development pattern and Korea's high-density residential development pattern in suburban areas. Fourth, the shapes of the net density functions of population and housing density are best fit in biquadratic and cubic equations, respectively. The highest density of population and housing is found at 9-10Km from the central business district(CBD).
