경기도의 방언 구획 –등어선속을 이용한 첫 체계적 시도–

김한별, 2023, 경기도의 방언 구획, 어문연구, 198 : 195~239 이 논문은 경기도의 방언 구획을 논의한 것이다. 경기도 방언은 그 중요성에도 불구하고 아직 체계적인 방법론에 따라 구획된 적이 없다. 이 논문에서는 먼저 이 방언에 대한 구획 방법론을 논의하고, 방언 구획의 구체적인 과정과 결과를 보인 후 그 결과를 해석하였다. 필자가 채택한 방법론은 등어선속의 두께를 측정하는 전통적인 방식이다. 구획 대상은 1980년대 초 행정 구역상의 경기도에 서울 · 인천을 추가하고 개풍 · 장단 · 옹진을 제외한 지역으로 삼았고, 조사 지역은 他道의 경기도 인접 郡까지로 확대하였다. 조사 항목은 『韓國方言資料集』, 『서울 토박이말 자료집』, 『인천 토박이말 연구』 등 3종의 자료집에서 총 83개를 선정하였는데, 이들의 방언 분포는 14개로 유형화할 수 있었다. 이상의 방법에 입각하여 방언 구획을 해 본 결과, 이 방언은 ‘西北部·北部·東北部·東部·東南部·中南部경기 방언’ 등 총 6개의 하위 방언으로 나뉘었다. 이와 같은 결과는 조사 항목의 다수를 이루는 여러 음운 현상이 등어선에 다층적으로 반영되었기 때문으로 해석하였다. 그리고 이 구획의 결과가 조선 시대 6大路 체계와 밀접한 관련성을 보인다는 점에서 이 해석이 타당함을 주장하였다.
Abstract
This paper discusses dialect division of Gyeonggi-do (or the Gyeonggi Province). Despite the significance of the Gyeonggi dialect, there has been no systematic subdivision into subdialects. The present study explores the methodology used to divide the dialect, presents the specific processes and results of this division, and interprets the findings. The study employs a traditional method of measuring the thickness of the bundle of isoglosses. The target area for division includes Gyeonggi-do, as administratively organized in the early 1980s, along with Seoul-si and Incheon-si; Gaepung-gun, Jangdan-gun, and Ongjin-gun are excluded. The survey areas extend beyond the province, to the adjacent guns (郡, ‘counties’) in other provinces. A total of 83 survey items were selected from three dialect databooks: Collection of Korean Dialect Data, Collection of Native Seoul Dialect Data, and A Study of Native Incheon Dialect. The distribution of forms for these items is categorized into 14 types. Based on this methodology, the Gyeonggi dialect is divided into six subdialects: the “Northwestern,” “Northern,” “Northeastern,” “Eastern,” “Southeastern,” and “Central and Southern” Gyeonggi dialect. This division is interpreted as a result of the multi-layered reflection of various phonological phenomena in the isoglosses, which encompass the majority of the survey items. The interpretation is supported by the close relationship between the results of the division and the Six Major Roads system of the Joseon Dynasty.
