2007년 상용화로 도입된 Apple의 iPhone을 필두로 한 스마트폰의 성장은 이동통신 단말의 형태뿐만 아니라 이동통신 서비스의 형태, 이동 통신 인프라망의 트래픽의 형태 등 이동통신 산업 전반에 전례 없는 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 이에따라 이동통신 단말업계 뿐만 아니라 이동통신 인프라의 구조, 이동통신 프로토콜의 설계 등 통신 네트워크 기술 전반에 커다란 변화를 가져왔다. 그 결과 종래의 이동통신관련 통신기술과 네트워크에서 주로 다루어졌던 연구의 방향성에 많은 수정이 요구되어 스마트폰으로 인한 새로운 서비스, 새로운 환경에 맞춘 새로운 통신기술과 네트워크 프로토콜 설계가 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 스마트폰의 성장과정과 향후 발전방향을 살펴보고 그에 따른 단말기 제조업체와 이동통신 서비스제공자의 환경 변화 그리고 스마트폰의 폭발적인 성장속에 이동통신환경에서 필요한 새로운 통신기술과 네트워크프로토콜 설계 이슈를 살펴보고 그에 따른 새로운 통신네트워크 R&D의 방향성을 제시하고자 한다
Abstract
Since the commercialization of Apple's iPhone in 2007, the growth of smartphone brought unprecedented major impact upon not only the form factor of mobile communication terminals but also every aspects across mobile communication industry including the mobile communication services, mobile communication infrastructure, and the network traffic. Accordingly, mobile terminal industry, mobile communication infra structure, and mobile communication protocols significantly changed in overall. In this paper, we review the growth of smartphones and examines its future directions. We also investigate the issues of new communications technologies and design of new communication protocols in the ever changing environments of mobile communication fields with the explosive growth of smartphone, and propose the directions of R&D in new communications and network paradigm.
